The Vampire Diaries meets Jodi Picoult

The Donor (The Full Novella) - Nikki Rae

The Donor (the full novella) is comprised of the three parts previously written and sold individually by Nikki.

Casey, a young woman dealing with a lot in life, turns to online dating of a sort to help out with finances.

Things aren't as straight forward as we are made to believe.

Jonah meets up with Casey and while not creepy, things are a little off.

I was not really a fan of the to-ing and fro-ing of the story, it made it feel really disconnected. The layout made it easy to distinguish the change in scene and time, but the effect was one of sudden changes in scene, instead of a transition. Also, given that some of the scenes only were short, it added to the choppiness of the whole story.

I did not connect with any of the characters, I didn't really care for them, didn't feel gutted when something happened to them, nor felt like I should have been feeling it. I just didn't mesh with them.

I applaud Nikki for tackling a topic like this, especially in a paranormal romance/fiction style. It allowed for a sense of realism while also allowing a degree of separation from the story. I think that this separation will be needed for readers who have first-hand experience with the sort of situation explored by the characters.

I described this book to a friend as: The Vampire Diaries crossed with the sort of story Jodi Picoult would write about. Perhaps not quite as hard hitting or developed, but the idea is the same.

There were a couple of instances of weird tenses, and passive voice, but they were minor. Still irked me though.

One thing I noticed:
10% - ...bought my ticket, s(o) I knew he wasn't bluffing.
